ABOUT JASON MOON
MUSIC, SERVICE, AND STORY
Jason Moon is an award-winning singer-songwriter, keynote speaker, Iraq War veteran, PTSD educator, and founder of Warrior Songs. Based in Payson, Arizona, he has built a life’s work around a simple conviction: an honest story, carried by music, can reach people who might never meet through ordinary conversation.
Jason’s work lives at the intersection of art, military experience, recovery, and public service. Onstage, he combines acoustic folk and Americana with candid storytelling, compassion, and humor. Whether the setting is a concert hall, conference, veterans’ gathering, classroom, retreat, house concert, or community event, he gives audiences room to listen closely—to the song, to the story behind it, and to one another.
THE SONGWRITER
Jason has released five albums of original music. His songs are grounded in lived experience and written with a storyteller’s attention to character, place, struggle, and change. Some songs speak directly to military service and coming home. Others explore love, family, identity, hope, grief, friendship, faith, and the stubborn human work of carrying on.
The result is a body of music that can stand on its own in a listening room while also serving a larger purpose. Jason’s songs have been used in concerts, educational programs, veteran and mental-health settings, and story-and-song presentations. His catalog is available for appropriate licensing in film, television, documentaries, podcasts, educational media, and nonprofit projects.
Jason’s performances are intimate and direct. He is as interested in why a song exists as in playing it. A program may move from a funny memory to a difficult truth, from a veteran’s testimony to an original song, and from isolation toward connection. The goal is not to tell an audience what to feel. It is to create an honest place in which people can recognize something of themselves and each other.
THE VETERAN AND SPEAKER
Jason served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve and deployed to Iraq with the 724th Engineer Battalion in 2003–2004. His military history is described in greater detail on the Veteran page. The experiences of service, deployment, return, and recovery later became central to his songwriting and public speaking.
As a keynote speaker and educator, Jason addresses military service, homecoming, PTSD, moral and emotional injury, resilience, creativity, and the difficult process of rebuilding a life. He does not approach these subjects as abstractions. His presentations draw on personal narrative, original music, years of work with veterans, and the practical knowledge that recovery is rarely simple or linear.
Programs can be adapted for veterans and military families, caregivers, clinicians, educators, students, nonprofits, faith communities, conferences, and general audiences. Jason also offers workshops, interviews, panels, and story-and-song programs. His strongest presentations combine the emotional access of music with the clarity of a well-told firsthand story.
THE FOUNDER OF WARRIOR SONGS
In 2010, Jason founded Warrior Songs, a nonprofit organization committed to helping veterans express and integrate military experience through music and the creative arts. Its work grew from the recognition that many veterans carry important stories that are difficult to speak plainly—and that art can offer another way to tell the truth.
Through the Story to Song process, veterans’ firsthand testimony is paired with songwriters and musicians who help transform those experiences into professionally produced songs. The veteran’s story remains at the center. The finished work can affirm the veteran who shared it, help families understand what their loved one has carried, and invite civilian audiences into a deeper encounter with the human realities of war and homecoming.
Warrior Songs’ projects include themed compilations created from veterans’ stories. Women at War: Warrior Songs Vol. 2 received the 2019 Wisconsin Area Music Industry Album of the Year award. The organization has continued developing veteran-centered music, creative-arts programs, and Story to Song work representing a wider range of military experiences.
A CONTINUING BODY OF WORK
Jason’s identities as musician, veteran, speaker, educator, and nonprofit founder are not separate careers stacked beside one another. They are parts of the same body of work: listening carefully, telling the truth without surrendering hope, and helping people transform what has been carried in silence into something that can be shared.
That work continues from Payson through live performances, keynote presentations, workshops, interviews, music licensing, and ongoing creative projects.
